Welcome to Wandering Star Alpaca Ranch. We are located in the Sierra Foothills, an easy to find 3/4 mile from Route 80, half way between Sacramento and Reno in California.
We became interested in the "Alpaca Lifestyle" around 2002. After much research and two and a half years of searching we found a location perfect for us. A modest home on 10 acres in the small community of Weimar, California. The day we signed the paperwork on our land we purchased our first pregnant female alpaca. Ten days later we purchased a yearling female. Both were agisted (boarded at the ranch we purchased them from) until we could prepare a secure home for our girls. The dream began to come true! Now our ranch is home to 20+ wondeful alpacas. We are one of the many California ranches that promote the ownership and sales of these unique animals. Originating in South America the Incans call the fiber the "Fiber of the Gods". To touch it is to understand why the finest of the fiber was reserved for nobility;. Would you like to see and touch what it is all about? Then give us a call. We would enjoy showing you around.

6/20/2005 6:15 pm Luna had a GIRL! The color of butterscotch, very lusterous and soft .....with a little grey face. Now where did that come from?. 18.6 lbs.
She inhaled some amniotic fluid and so had a little trouble breathing. We held her upside down and swung her a little. Didn't take long for her to breathe easily. Up on her feet the first time she tried! Strong and nursing within the hour. Good job Moche. |

A cup of coffee and I am out in the cool, crisp morning mountain air. The girls are up and have begun their morning humming. We have a baby monitor in their shed and that gets me going. Need to check on them and let them out into the front yard to munch.
We are waiting for three cria and Luna is due, actually 3 days late. Doesen't look like Luna will have her baby today. Luna is white and we bred her to Eric Hoffman's lusterous black suri Moche. We expect a beautiful baby from this match. This is the fun part. Almost a year has passed Luna. Get with the progam now and have that baby! |
